According to a report issued by the National Fire Protection Association, the state of Delaware has adopted its NFPA 1, Fire Code, NFPA 101, Life Safety Code, and NFPA 70 National Electrical Code.

The adoption of each code went into effect on Nov. 11, 2009. NFPA 1 establishes basic fire prevention requirements, while NFPA 101 creates standards for building design and construction to protect occupants against dangers caused by fire, smoke and toxic fumes. NFPA 70, which is the most widely used code in the U.S., sets standards for safe electrical installations.

"We have learned from past experience that utilizing the most up-to-date versions of fire and life safety codes and standards is an essential part of protecting the people of Delaware from fire and other hazards," said Delaware State Fire Marshal Grover P. Ingle.
