Integrating Smart Cards with Biometrics

Strategies for high-security authentication

If the biometric template is kept in the system, it becomes a nearly immediate process to update all doors. The template can also be distributed immediately to all biometric devices throughout the campus or enterprise. The negative is that some people are very bothered by the perception that their biometric is on the system and could be hacked. They don’t understand that it’s not their actual biometric but an algorithm but, nonetheless, it can often take much explaining before they are comfortable.

Whichever way the template is stored, it becomes very easy to manage multiple credentials, such as biometrics, with a smart card, yet another reason to start one’s migration as soon as possible.
