Some of today's enterprise-grade midspans also have remote power-management features, including the ability to support IPv4 and IPv4/6 addressing and deliver secure, SNMPv3 remote control. Midspans are able to power PDs on and off, selectively shut down ports during the day, and accurately measure and actively adjust each device's average power consumption. This can reduce total overall power consumption by as much as 70 percent.
PoE PSEs offer a variety of important benefits to security professionals. By leveraging their dynamic power management capabilities, power allocation is easy to do and can generate significant cost and energy savings.
