SIA presents 32 NPS awards

This year was a turning point in the Security Industry Association's (SIA) New Product Showcase. Not only were there top awards in the newly revised categories (revamped to encompass new technologies, integration and convergence)-but the most honorable mentions ever were given out during a formal presentation at ISC West in Las Vegas.

As the industry continues to morph into new technologies, the SIA NPS chronicles the journey; for 2011 some 85 different products were entered into the premier contest. The awards are based on meeting a need in the marketplace; innovativeness through new technology or application; and a solid benefit-to-price ratio for the installation and end-user communities.

SafeRise from FST21 Americas was honored with the Best New Product Award. The SafeRise product has many current installations and is an access control solution that uses biometrics; voice, face and license plate recognition technologies; and video, voice and behavioral analytics. OSID from Xtralis received the Judges' Choice Award for its smoke detection which uses dual light frequencies, enabling discrimination between smoke and other objects and reducing false alarms.

"The judges were very impressed by SafeRise's use of some of the most innovative security technologies available," NPS Chair Jennifer Martin of Pixim said. "It is an excellent example of what the New Product Showcase is all about. And OSID's smoke detection capabilities effectively address the critical problem of false alarms."

"We're proud that the Security Industry Association selected us as the product of the year and what this award represents," said Avi Lupo, CEO of FST21 Americas. "SafeRise is the future of access control in the 21st century."

Awards were presented in 21 product and service categories and the judges presented nine honorable mention awards. (Honorable mentions could be awarded in any category at the discretion of the judges.) The 32 awards are the most ever presented in the history of the NPS.
