Pelosi: 9/11 Bill Will Protect Americans From Terrorism by Addressing Major Security Vulnerabilities

July 25, 2007

WASHINGTON, July 25 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement today on the agreement reached by House and Senate on a final bill to implement the recommendations of the independent 9/11 Commission:

"Six years after the terrorist attacks of 9/11 and three years after the bipartisan and independent 9/11 Commission delivered to the American people a roadmap for security that the Republican Congress had failed to pass into law, the Democratic Congress is about to deliver to the President a bill for his signature to make the American people safer.

"When Democrats took control of Congress in January, the first bill we passed was H.R. 1, implementing the 9/11 Commission recommendations and delivering on our first responsibility -- to keep the American people safe. Six months later, now that Republicans have dropped their opposition to the bill and the House and Senate have reached agreement, we are one step closer to making into law the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission. The bill will protect Americans from terrorism by addressing major security vulnerabilities and improving our defenses across the board against terrorist attacks."
