Autonomy Introduces Industry's First Intelligent Information Governance Platform

April 14, 2008

CAMBRIDGE, England and SAN FRANCISCO , April 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Autonomy (LSE: AU. or AU.L), a global leader in infrastructure software for enterprise, today introduced Autonomy Information Governance, the industry's first information governance platform that automates real-time policy management based on forming a conceptual and contextual understanding of all enterprise information. Autonomy's unique capability is a major step forward in reducing risks inherent in information by applying policy based on understanding what an email, document or phone recording says instead of relying solely on its metadata.

In the wake of the amended Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (FRCP), sub-prime mortgage and credit crisis and highly publicized internal fraud cases, organizations are under increased pressure to consistently implement information policies for finding, holding and disposing of information in a timely manner. Although most global 2000 organizations have defined and updated their information management policies, the complexities of implementing and enforcing these policies is challenging even the world's leading companies.

"Most organizations are under the misconception that their current technologies are enough; that is until they've had one really bad experience," said Browning Marean, Partner, DLA Piper US LLP. "With 14,000 separate records retention regulations out there and the complexities and costs being incurred just trying to comply with legal hold requests, a company doesn't have the capability to manage this without advanced technology."

To automate real-time policy management, Autonomy Information Governance provides a dynamic and real-time environment to visualize and control policy-driven information in the organization. This is accomplished through a vendor-neutral infrastructure using more than 400 out-of-the-box data repository connectors that allow management in place and retrieval of email, documents, audio, or video information across the entire enterprise. Modules include:

- Compliance - the only software that allows Compliance Officers and Risk Managers to uncover issues and potential violations proactively, as they are developing, by understanding the concepts and context of communications and actions.

- Enterprise Legal Hold - the only end-to-end software for Legal Counsel to automate notification, preservation and collection across all enterprise repositories, desktops and laptops for all data formats, including voice, email, IM, applications and databases.

- Disposition Management - the only software that automatically categorizes information based on the value of the content to the organization, then applies retention and disposition policies accordingly. It further ensures that information related to a legal hold or regulatory matter isn't accidentally deleted.

"Developments in the global regulatory and legal environment are compelling many corporations to start taking a unified approach to IT governance, IT compliance, and IT risk management, which have historically existed as discrete functional silos within corporations," said Vivian Tero , Research Manager, Compliance Infrastructure, IDC. "Having a unified and consolidated framework facilitates the mapping of dependencies between regulations and policies with the appropriate controls and information and computing assets."
