Nov. 6, 2007

McLEAN, Va., Nov. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- QinetiQ North America (QNA) announced today that Dr. Stephen Cambone has joined the organization as senior vice president for strategy. He will lead QNA's advisory board, its strategic planning process, the assessment of investments in technology and research and development, assist in identifying new business opportunities and participate in the evaluation of mergers and acquisitions.

" Dr. Cambone 's insight into national security affairs and priorities and the views of decision makers and thought leaders on matters of national significance will be important as we shape QNA's ability to rapidly deliver solutions to the complex challenges that face our defense and intelligence customers," said Duane Andrews , CEO of QinetiQ North America .

Dr. Cambone is a recognized leader in the field of national security policy. His knowledge and expertise have been developed over a 25-year career in government, academia and the private sector.

From 2003 to 2006, he served as the first Undersecretary of Defense for Intelligence (USDI). As USDI he provided policy guidance to and was responsible for the development and oversight of programs and budgets for the intelligence enterprise in the Department of Defense (DOD).

Prior to 2003, Dr. Cambone was charged with strategic planning for DOD. In 2001, he led development of DOD's strategic policies and plans for the Quadrennial Defense Review (QDR). In 2002, he directed development of the budget and revisions to DOD and service program plans to implement the QDR. During the 1990s, Dr. Cambone served as the staff director for two congressionally mandated commissions, one on ballistic missile threats to the U.S., the other on the organization and management of U.S. national security space activities. He was a senior fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies and Director of Research at the Institute for National Security Studies at the National Defense University.

Dr. Cambone has served on the staff of the director of the Los Alamos National Laboratory, as a deputy group director of a Washington, DC , consulting firm, and as a DOD office director. He received his Ph.D. and master's degrees in political science from Claremont Graduate School and his bachelor's degree in political science from The Catholic University of America.

Dr. Cambone is the recipient of the Department of Defense Distinguished Public Service Medal and the National Intelligence Distinguished Service Medal, among other honors and awards.

Commenting on his new role, Dr. Cambone said, "QinetiQ is committed to providing its clients with timely and effective solutions to their problems. It has a number of technologies in its laboratories and some real talent in its work force that rivals or exceeds that of companies many times its size. At the same time it has the agility and flexibility to adjust to circumstances in the manner of a much smaller company. I am looking forward to helping QNA translate its capabilities into solutions that meet the users' critical needs while reducing their acquisition and operating costs and accelerating execution time. I'm looking forward to the fresh challenges that exist at QNA."
