Raytheon AFATDS Receives Top 5 Department of Defense Program Award for Systems Engineering

MARLBOROUGH, Mass., Nov. 2, 2007 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Company's (NYSE: RTN) Advanced Field Artillery Data System (AFATDS) program has been recognized by the Department of Defense and the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) as a 2006 Top 5 DoD program award winner for Systems Engineering.

AFATDS is the Army's system of record for planning, coordinating and controlling all mortars, close air support, naval gunfire, attack helicopters, offensive electronic warfare, field artillery cannons, rockets and guided missiles.

The Top 5 DoD award recognizes excellence in the application of systems engineering that results in highly successful programs. Members from Raytheon's joint government-industry team were presented with the award during NDIA's 10th Annual Systems Engineering Conference in San Diego .

During Operation Iraqi Freedom, AFATDS directed more than 35,000 rounds of munitions, 857 rockets, and 453 long-range missiles safely to their targets, while preventing fratricide and the loss of friendly aircraft.
