May 22, 2007
Raleigh, N.C., conference focuses on intellectual property, physical security, contingency planning

RALEIGH, N.C.--(May 15, 2007--The North Carolina Technology Association, (NCTA) the primary voice of the technology industry in North Carolina, recognizes that business leaders must safeguard people, property, information and assets to preserve a company's reputation and protect shareholder value. Experts specializing in protecting people and physical security will share their knowledge on Thursday, June 7, at the NCTA Five Pillars of Executive Leadership in a Non-Secure World conference, presented by Williams Mullen Maupin Taylor, P.A., at Embassy Suites Hotel in Cary, N.C.

"Companies that fail to adapt to the ever-changing threat environment, like the dinosaur, will eventually become extinct. Stay current, stay informed, come to the Five Pillars conference," explains Dennis Collins, a specialist in physical security for critical infrastructure facilities and president of Nuclear Security Services Corporation, one of the largest high-level security solutions providers in the U.S. "As the threat environment changes, the consequences of a failed security program increase exponentially. I am excited to meet and share ideas with a tremendous group of professionals."

This conference is designed with interactive panel discussions that focus on five critical areas including contingency planning, cyber security, intellectual property protection, physical security, and protecting people. Participants will have an unparalleled opportunity to network with respected security professionals from all over the world and evaluate cutting-edge technologies and techniques to strengthen corporate sustainability.

Joining Mr. Collins in discussions on physical security and protecting people are Erik Prince and Joe Adamczyk. Mr. Prince is the founder, owner, and CEO of Blackwater USA, the largest commercial firearms and security training facility in the country. Blackwater's customers include all elements of U.S. Special Operations Command and other elite military special operations forces, federal, state and local law enforcement and corporate security teams. Mr. Adamczyk is a Project Director for MPRI, Inc., based in Fayetteville, N.C. MPRI has provided national security, defense and law enforcement customers within the U.S. and abroad with professional services, specialized products, and integrated solutions for education, training and operations since 1986.

Additional presenters include: Dean Carver, National Counterintelligence Executive, Office of the Director of National Intelligence; Tom McWeeney, Center for Strategic Management; Tim Stranahan, Supervisory Special Agent, FBI - NC; Nate Gray, Special Agent in Charge, FBI - NC; Tom Mahlik, Section Chief - CI Strategy and Domain, Counterintelligence, FBI-HQ; John Slattery, Deputy Assistant Director for Counterintelligence, FBI-HQ; Greg Garcia, Assistant Secretary, Department of Homeland Security; Mark Moorman, Advisor, Office of the CTO at SAS Institute; Mike Ferris, Product Manager for Red Hat Security Solutions; Stuart McIrvine, Director, Corporate Security Strategy, IBM; John Tuohey, Senior Director, Sierra Nevada Corporation; Russell Nelson, Special Agent in Charge - Charlotte Division U.S. Secret Service; Roland Cloutier, Director of IT Security, EMC Corporation, Dean Barclay, Associate, Williams Mullen Maupin Taylor, P.A.; Brig. Security and vulnerability remains a top concern for senior management and other C-level executives as the explosion of wireless devices, e-enabled applications, and advanced global systems puts data in the hands of more people in more places than ever. NCTA has been collaborating with the FBI for the last seven years to address security and intellectual property protection at all levels of business with the goal to provide you the tools and knowledge to help strengthen your existing business position.

Experts in the intelligence community have praised the previous Five Pillars conference held earlier this year in Charlotte, adding that the subject matter, quality of speakers, and format has the potential to be a model program for the entire country. Past speakers have included H. Keith Melton, international spy expert and best-selling author of The Ultimate Spy, Associate Executive Director of the National Security Branch of the FBI Philip Mudd, and David Szady, senior vice president, Perot Systems Government Services and former assistant director of counterintelligence for the FBI.
