Security Watch: Tee Off for Industry Research

March 20, 2012
AIREF golf tournament

The 9th Annual Alarm Research and Educational Foundation (AIREF) golf tournament will be held Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at the Revere Golf Club in Las Vegas. For AIREF, the annual tournament serves as its sole fundraising event, allowing the foundation to fund critical research and educational programs that benefit the security industry and enhance public safety.

AIREF was established in 1977 by Ben Call, one of the security industry’s original founders of the National Burglar and Fire Alarm Association. He saw the industry as a way to give back and “engage in initiatives critical to public safety, the consumer and the alarm professional.”

Industry research and studies

The funding raised by the golf tournament has allowed AIREF to participate in projects such as funding for a study by the Rutgers University School of Criminal Justice which found that residential burglar alarm systems deter crime, providing financial assistance to publish Building Our Way Out of Crime, a study on urban redevelopment, research for improved false/invalid alarm calculation and reporting, and course development for the National Training School.
