What is behind the NPS program? Forum tells all

March 30, 2012, Las Vegas, NV -- The Security Industry Association (SIA) held its first NPS Winner’s Forum for ISC West 2012 attendees—giving show-goers, manufacturers and past and present NPS participants keen insights into the mechanics of the program and how winners leverage their accolades.

Jennifer Martin, NPS chair and manager of Worldwide Channel Programs for Pixim kicked off the inaugural session and lauded NPS judges for their contributions during the event. “The NPS is the Academy Awards of new product development,” she said. “The judges take it quite seriously. We go head to head sometimes during the intense two-day process to identify the winners and true innovation in the security industry,” she said.

This year, top winners MorphoTrak’s MorphoAccess VP and the TKH Security Solutions Siqura BC620WDR camera were represented in the forum and recounted their experience and the painstaking process to make it happen. Product manager Bob Germain of TKH Security Solutions, Germantown Md., whose product won the Judges Choice in the showcase said they were “stunned” to receive the award.

“We are thinking ahead to the next year already,” Germain said. “We had the product in development for about a year and really plan to leverage the award in our branding,” he said.

Best new product award

Gary Jones, senior manager, Commercial Distribution for Biometric Security, Productivity and Convenience Solutions for MorphoTrak in Alexandria, Va., said the product is witness of the exponential gain in performance in biometrics. The product uses vein and fingerprint biometrics and is a quick read, enrollment and high-performance multi-modal technology with a false rejection rate of below 0.1 percent. “The SIA NPS judging experience was phenomenal. We are a selective company as far as what we enter and we knew it was a top-notch program,” Jones said. “The judges engaged with us and tested the technology. We were pleased from start to finish.”
