What integrators can expect at ISC West

March 13, 2015
A look at technology and education opportunities for integrators coming to Vegas

ISC West will feature as much technology, education, networking and fun as any security dealer or integrator can handle April 14-17 in Las Vegas.

Before you make your way through the Sands Convention Center exhibit hall — featuring more than 1,000 exhibitors and brands — be sure to check out SD&I’s exclusive ISC West New Product Preview, which will be featured in our April issue. The preview gives you a virtual walk up and down the aisles of vendors and technologies for a chance to map out the products you’d like to get a closer look at. Alternatively, if you cannot attend, the preview is a chance to catch up on the technologies you would not want to have missed.

Other technology-related showcases and events will include the Security Industry Association’s annual New Product Showcase (see page 18); and all three standardization organizations will hold events or demos at the show.
For the second year in a row, ONVIF will host multiple demonstrations of its interoperability specifications. Attendees can visit Booth #31087 to take the Profile Q Quick Install Challenge (read more about Profile Q on page 74 of this issue); and see demos of ONVIF’s full complement of Profiles.

PSIA will unveil its Physical-Logical Access Interoperability (PLAI) specification with a live demo.

The SIA InteropFest & Cocktail Reception (April 15 at 4:30 p.m. in Sands rooms 701/702) builds on last year’s inaugural SIA plugfest. It will feature standards such as the SIA Open Supervised Device Protocol (OSDP) and Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP).

Calling All Project Managers
SIA will be offering the certification exam for the Certified Security Project Manager (CSPM) credential at ISC West in Sands Room 405 on April 15.

“Given what’s on the line when managing a security project, employers must have confidence in their project managers to have the skills and experience to properly manage a security project from beginning to end,” says Arminda Valles-Hall, SIA director of education. “The CSPM credential gives them that confidence.”

Candidates can assess eligibility for the exam by downloading the CSPM Candidate Information Brochure at www.securityindustry.org/Pages/Certification/CSPM-Certification.aspx.

Other Education and Keynote Sessions
The PSA TEC track at ISC West will feature a full day of training sessions intended to address current issues in the physical security market. This year’s sessions will cover cybersecurity, the use of proprietary platforms, and unconventional security solutions. Featured sessions include: To Have or To Hire: The Advancement of IT Skills in the Physical Security Space; Best Practices in Securing the Cloud; Open vs. Proprietary Platforms; The Forum for Creative Security Solutions; and Cyber Hygiene for Physical Security.

ISC West’s three “State of the Industry” sessions will showcase content for all ISC conference attendees — regardless of business segment or track interest — and will take place during dedicated breaks in the general conference program. They include:

• Talent Management: Best Practices for the Security Industry: Learn how to develop both an efficient process and the desired culture to attract, hire and retain top talent in today’s candidate-driven market.
• Making the Most of Big Data: We hear about it enough, but what is “big data” and how can it be used in a practical and actionable sense? How can we use it to gain actionable intelligence while it still matters?
• The Command Center Experience: From Design to PSIM: The process of Command Center design is critical to the success of industry and public safety alike.
