Hacker clones U.S. passport cards

Watch this video from Chris Paget on YouTube. It is an interesting condemnation of RFID and the security of the U.S. Passport Card (not the big blue Passport booklet most of us carry). With the availability of encryption and the ability of smart cards, why are we not making this technology more secure, rather than using standard, fairly easily clonable RFID. As someone in the industry, it's embarassing to see yet another cloning. This, of course, has happened to proximity cards used for building access control in the past.
