The House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Energy and Environment met on Thursday to mark up HR 2868, the “Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Act of 2009.” Representatives Henry A. Waxman and Edward J. Markey chair the committee.
Apparently there was progress made on making CFATS permanent and moving forward. Seems there is still ongoing discussion about IST (Inherently Safer Technologies).
The American Chemistry Council has been involved in the discussions. Cal Dooley, the council’s chief executive officer and president, released a statement:
According to Ryan Loughin, Director of Petrochemical & Energy Solutions for the Advanced Integration division of ADT, making CFATS permanent would give facilities in the program the chance to complete their Site-Security Plans and implement them. Check back for more information.
