TSA's test lab

July 22, 2009

CNN did a great job of looking at some of the behind-the-scenes work that the TSA is doing to try to improve baggage screening and spot IEDs before they can get on planes. You can also watch the video that CNN put together on this same story.

Basically, TSA has a lab where they are experimenting with IEDs to try to identify those devices. They're also running random bags that were unclaimed (missing a bag? Then it could be one of the thousands that the TSA is now using for testing purposes) through screening machines to try to get better at accurate detection by reducing false positives (false alarms) and false negatives (no alarm when their should have been an alarm).
