Hot camera, only it’s not for security

Nov. 13, 2008

From the founder of Oakley sunglasses comes a new brand of cameras called Red that will shoot 12 megapixels at 30 frames per second, or up to 120 frames per second with a reduced resolution. Of course, if you're using this camera, which is starting to be adopted in the film industry after its '06 launch, you're probably a pro shooting movies and feature-lenth films. But the compact form size  and the modular (build as you grow) design speaks volumes about the differences between consumer technology, professional security technology and professional videography technology. Of course, there's no film -- it's all digital.

Someday, we are sure you'll have cameras of this quality in your PTZs and security officers can make outstanding movies in their spare time when they're not having to do building checks or run off vagrants. This is the trickle-down technology future.

Oh, yeah, they've got a 3D version on the way, too. Of course, there's no word yet on any companies thinking about 3D for physical security, but who knows what the future might hold.
