Lost laptop = $54 million?

Talk about retail risk exposure...Best Buy has been slapped by a lawsuit from a woman asking for $54 million because Best Buy lost a laptop she had brought into the store for repairs. The laptop was worth about $1100. In today's "victim" world, risk is always worth reviewing. This is after she already was returned her purchase price and given a $500 gift card for her inconvenience. Let's hope this one gets wadded up and tossed in the round file. Why is she suing for so much? Apparently for publicity (she'll probably be satisfied to find yet another blog post/article on this) -- she wants Americans to know about the issues of data privacy. Um, sure. The things a risk manager has to think about today...
