New report from SEC’s research arm provides insights on security budgets, structures

The Security Leadership Research Institute, which serves as the research arm of the Security Executive Council, released a new report this week entitled "Corporate Security Organizational Structure, Cost of Services and Staffing Benchmark," which presents findings on security budgets, workforces, program structure, drivers, and governance.

According to a statement, the report is the "first major deliverable" from the institute research efforts, which are intended to provide security benchmarks to organizations of all sizes.

Among some of the report’s findings include:

- The average security budget per organization employee was $249
- The average security budget as a percentage of organization revenue was 0.07 percent
- and, on average, respondents reported one security employee for every 99 organization employees.

Research participants will receive a copy of the report this month. Non-participants can also download an executive summary of the report or visit the SEC’s Leadership Store to purchase the full report.
