Expo Seguridad Mexico 2011 once again surpassed expectations as the premier security exhibition, seminar and conference program in Latin America with a keynote speech by the former president of Colombia, Alvaro Uribe.
The ninth annual expo took place at Centro Banamex in Mexico City from April 12-14, 2011. According to preliminary figures, there were 315 exhibitors and the expo attracted more than 11,000 attendees.
Expo Seguridad Mexico 2010 was launched during a special ceremony with a keynote speech by Uribe. As Colombia’s most popular President of the last 50 years, even after leaving office, Uribe has a successful track record in the fight against the narco-guerillas, and high crime rates. A direct reflection of this is that Colombia has become a much safer country with the growing economy and increased foreign investment.
In his keynote, the well-respected former president shared his ideas on taking advantage of the new advances in security technology to combat security issues and improve social conditions.
Other important figures who took part in the inauguration ceremony were Javier del Real Magallanes, Subsecretary of Strategy and Intelligence – Secretariat of Federal Public Security; Dr. Manuel Mondragón y Kalb, Secretary of Public Security Mexico City; Commander Raúl Peralta Alvarado, head of Investigations of the PGJ Police in Mexico City; Lic. Arturo Vilchis Esquivel, Director of Civil Protection for the State of Mexico as well as Samuel Ordaz Cortes, president, and Andrea Ferrando, Director of Marketing, for Giprex, the organizers of the expo.
With more than 11,000 qualified attendees, exhibitors were singing praises to how important the show was for them.
Pedro Duarte, vice president of business development for Latin America at Samsung Techwin America, stated, "Samsung has exhibited in Expo Seguridad Mexico every year since it began. Conference speakers included, Colonel Eric Rojo, Samuel Yecutieli, Carlos Ramirez Acosta, Alan Bell, Adrian Gordon, Jesus Fierro, Modesto Miguez CPP, Maria Andrea Caldas and Juan Carlos Pimentel. In addition, to several panel discussions, leaders from some of the major companies in the industry participated incluing Frederik Nilsson, general manager of the Americas for Axis Communications; Gert Van Iperen, global president of Bosch Security Systems and Jim Sandelin, senior vice president of Schneider Electric.
Topics ranged from technical to business to sales themes with seminars including Securing the Critical Infrastructure, Video Surveillance in 2011 and Where We Will be in 2016; Selling ROI in Security – Challenges and Opportunities; Security as a Service; Critical Identification and Infrastructure of Security; Analysis of the Criminal Mind and Future Wars in the 21st Century.
On the second night of the expo, the "Excellence Awards" were presented for the second year in a row at a special dinner. The awards recognize the leading companies in the security industry and highlight not only the quality of their solutions and products, ut also their investment in resources to provide better service, continuous improvement and greater professionalism.
The Excellence Awards 2011 were presented to Sinsel as the best integrator, Control Seguridad Privada in the category of best guard company, to Syscom as best distributor and to Bosch as best manufacturer. Additionally, Syscom and Bosch won awards for Best Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative, Mission 500.
During the Excellence Awards Dinner, people from the industry danced and sang in a special amateur talent segment.
Co-located with Expo Seguridad Mexico was the Mexico Safety Expo, now in its fourth year and the second year for both the Mexican Fire Expo and Facilities Mexico. Together, the four events attracted more than 14,000 visitors.
"This year’s event once again exceeded our expectations and proved that Expo Seguridad Mexico is the place to be for the security industry in Latin America when it comes to exploring new products and technologies and gaining valuable knowledge from a comprehensive seminar program," said Ferrando.
The 10th Edition of Expo Seguridad Mexico will be held April 24-26, 2012 at Centro Banamex in Mexico City.
