They are both are popular IP video management software companies, and are generally thought to be two of the leaders in overall market share. And while OnSSI and Milestone Systems may be competitors, they are also exploring partnerships.
The companies announced today that they have formed an OEM relationship they're calling an "ingredient" agreement, whereby the Milestone XProtect platform will as a recording engine for the Ocularis video management system from OnSSI. The systems are being tied in using the Milestone API. The integration will allow customers who may have both systems in place allow for integration.
OnSSI's President and CTO Gadi Piran credited both companies' commitment to open standards as the underlying reason for why such a collaboration could work.
"The combination of our technologies is an example of our open-architecture platform and our strategy to enable the delivery of the best available solutions to the market," said Piran.
Milestone Systems' President and CEO Lars Thinggaard echoed Piran's thoughts, noting each firm had "synergy with the same non-proprietary approach."
Both firms are exhibiting at the ISC West 2009 tradeshow next week in Las Vegas, Nevada.
