IT powerhouses find way into security market

HP and EMC throw in with Intransa for video storage solutions

(April 6, 2011) Las Vegas, NV -- Two traditional IT powerhouses have used a familiar supplier to help move into the security space. Intransa announced at ISC West that the firm has partnered with both HP and EMC to deliver security appliances to IT end-users.

On the EMC side of the announcement, the integration combines EMC's storage with Intransa's Video and Data Management & Retention (VDMR) technology suite. For HP, Intransa's VDMR appliances will enable physical security applications to run on HP ProLiant DL380 G7 servers. In addition, more than two dozen physical security applications, including video surveillance, access control and video analytics are available as certified preloaded options on the VDMR Appliance.

“I certainly would not have envisioned this five years ago,” Intransa VP of marketing Jeff Whitney said from the ISC West show floor. “It opens up an opportunity for the big IT players to directly participate in the security market.”

EMC VNX and EMC CLARiiON storage systems have been tested with the Intransa VDMR Appliance, making EMC the first to achieve Data Center Storage Select Elite certification through the Intransa Technology Lab partner program. EMC systems have been through both Level 2 and Level 3 integration and performance testing, achieving Intransa's highest certification.

The Intransa VDMR appliance is marketed as being ideal for video surveillance deployments of 1-154 standard IP cameras, depending on codec and other considerations.

Not only do the partnerships give the two IT companies an avenue into the security industry, Whitney said it also brings a world of untapped IT end-users to the security table. “It's an opportunity to sell to regular IT customers who have never bought a DVR or traditional physical security product,” Whitney said.

“Data center customers throughout the world trust EMC to store and manage their most critical data,” Intransa CEO Bud Broomhead said in a press release. “By adding the Intransa VDMR appliance to the mix, those same customers are now able to leverage hundreds of physical security products jointly certified by Intransa Technology Labs and their developers. That includes dozens of the most popular applications that are available as preloaded options with the appliance family.”
