Michael Markulec , Chief Operating Officer, Joins a Distinguished Panel of Experts to Examine Government Policies Concerning Content Protection of Sensitive Personal, National Security and Other Critical Data

SOMERSET, N.J. Jan. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Lumeta, the leading provider of Network Assurance solutions for enterprises and government agencies, today announced that COO Michael Markulec has been selected to participate in a panel at this year's CES Government Conference. Mr. Markulec joins a prominent group of experts, including government officials at key national agencies and IT security experts from the top technology firms in the private sector. The discussion will center on critical cybersecurity policy issues and direction in government, with specific focus on content protection and government policies concerning sensitive personal, national security and critical data.

The panel session takes place on Friday, January 9, 2009 at 10:10 a.m. PST at the Ritz Carleton Lake Hotel in Las Vegas . Topics for discussion include:

-- The effectiveness of government-wide cooperation in setting standards and managing threats for U.S. Certification, TIC and other programs; -- Whether efforts to protect sensitive information impede information sharing within departments, across agencies and across jurisdictions; -- Content protection best practices in government; -- Technology trends impacting government information security management going forward; and -- The role that FISMA has played in the evolution of information security management in government and its expected role in the future.

"Several factors have been converging with respect to the security of the federal government's cyberspace," said Mr. Markulec. "Within the past few years, there have been aggressive attacks aimed at gaining access to sensitive data at key federal agencies. These types of attacks are increasing in both level of sophistication and frequency. Coupled with a change in the presidential administration and a new emphasis on the need for a revamped strategy on securing the nation's cyberspace, the topic rises to the head of the national security priority list for 2009."

The panel is expected to be one of the highlights of this year's conference, which examines the acquisition and application of intelligent video and sensor technologies for homeland security and other government challenges, the protection of IT infrastructure and the balancing of content protection, and the need to share information across jurisdictions.
