Walker Digital, the founder of Priceline.com, announced this week that it’s suing ADT and more than 100 other companies over patent infringements.
The suit, which was filed on April 11, 2011, claims that ADT, Iveda Solutions, Tessco Technologies, Arrow Security, Commercial Protective Services, and Westec Intelligent Surveillance infringed upon patents assigned to Walker Digital for "Internet surveillance system and method." The complaint asks that the defendants in the case be required to pay damages to Walker Digital and that they also be prohibited from continuing to infringe upon the company’s technology patents. Click here [PDF file] to read the official complaint.
"Filing these lawsuits is not a step we sought or preferred," said Walker Digital CEO Jon Ellenthal in a prepared statement. "We have reached out to a wide range of companies that are engaging in commercial activities that clearly depend on inventions created and owned by Walker Digital. Unfortunately, many of these companies have refused to engage in meaningful negotiations that acknowledge the market value they derive from the use of our property."
As of press time Friday, ADT could not be reached for comment.
