FBI: Armored car robbery was an inside job

Officials with FBI Atlanta said a Loomis employee was arrested and charged in connection with a robbery on a Loomis armored truck at DeKalb Medical Center.

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -- Officials with FBI Atlanta said a Loomis employee was arrested and charged in connection with a robbery on a Loomis armored truck at DeKalb Medical Center.

Authorities said armed men confronted the couriers who were operating a Loomis armored car at DeKalb Medical Center at about 11 a.m. Wednesday. Police said one of the men fled the area in a U-Haul moving truck and was apprehended by police a short distance away.

Another person, who police believe was driving a “switch” vehicle, has not been caught.

Officials with the FBI Atlanta identified the arrested man as Oklevibus Thornton, 28, a Loomis employee.

Thornton was charged federally with violation of the Hobbs Act. He is scheduled to have his initial court appearance Monday on the federal charge.

Loomis has authorized a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the additional person(s) responsible for the robbery.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Atlanta FBI office at 404-679-9000.
