Report: Data breach could affect 70 million veterans

Sensitive information failed to be destroyed before government agency turned over defective hard drive


According to an article published this week in SC Magazine, the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) is looking into an incident involving a lost hard drive, which could potentially affect the records of 70 million U.S. military veterans.

The defective hard drive, which reportedly powered a system vets use to request health and discharge records, was sent by an agency back to the vendor for repair and recycling, without the information it contained being erased first.
