Interlogix brand returns to security industry

Interlogix was a dominant brand of security products offered by GE as part of the GE Interlogix unit for years. The brand included the CASI Division and offered such solutions as the Facility Commander physical security management system, as well as a number of more day-to-day products like smoke detectors, digital video recorders, door access, fire alarm products and intrusion detection products.

The brand had quietly faded somewhat in the years after GE Industrial Systems acquired Interlogix in 2002, especially as GE rebranded Interlogix under its GE Security nameplate, but now that GE Security has been acquired by UTC Fire & Security, the Interlogix name will be returning.

According to UTC, Interlogix will once again represent a full product line including intrusion detection, video surveillance, fire detection and life safety, access control and security/fire data transmission products. UTC indicated in a press release that the Interlogix brand "will target residential and small- to- medium-sized commercial enterprises."

"We reintroduced the Interlogix name because of its exceptional equity in the security marketplace," said UTC Fire & Security vice president and general manager Bob Haskins, "and this move builds on the promise of investing in the future with the strength of past performance."

Haskins noted that UTC was committing not only to the Interlogix brand, but also to other product line brands now owned by UTC. A number of UTC and GE product lines will be integrated under the Interlogix brand, including GE TruVision (video surveillance), IFS (fiber optics and data transmission), Simon XT (intrusion), Concord (intrusion), NetworX (intrusion), Verex (video surveillance, includes merged Guardall brand), Alliance (access), FireworX (fire detection), Topaz (access control), and UltraView (video surveillance).

UTC Fire & Security is designing the Interlogix line of products to be a channel-delivered product line, with a stated goal of having Interlogix serve as a "one-source provider" to dealer and integrators. The firm committed to continuing the Interlogix "Security Pro" and "Strategic Distribution Partner" programs.

The Interlogix brand and product line will be featured by UTC Fire & Security at the ASIS 2010 tradeshow in booth #2803. Interlogix is also being shown at the Essen security tradeshow in Germany this week: booth 505, hall 3.
