Social Security numbers of almost 1,000 employees was posted publicly on the Internet

DAYTON, Ohio -- A community college in Ohio says the names and Social Security numbers of almost 1,000 employees were inadvertently left open to public view on the Internet for about a year.

However, Sinclair Community College in Dayton says it has received no reports of identity theft.

Sinclair officials said Monday that a spreadsheet with information on people who worked at the school in 2000 and 2001 was placed in a computer folder by an employee.

Sinclair President Steven Lee Johnson says the employee didn't realize the folder could be viewed on the Internet.

Another Sinclair employee found the file last week while doing a Web search.

The college immediately removed the file and Johnson says there's no reason to believe anyone else accessed the information.
