To help meet the security needs of midmarket, Proximex, a supplier of physical security information management (PSIM) solutions, has released the new C100 appliance for small-to-mid sized companies.
According to Larry Lien, vice president of product management for Proximex, although the company has typically dealt with larger size deployments in the corporate and transportation sectors (the Port of Long Beach is a customer for its flagship system, Surveillint), there has been interest from integrators and end users alike for an affordable, PSIM solution on a smaller scale.
“What we’ve heard recently from our partners is that there is a huge need for a PSIM application in the mid-market,” he said.
In developing the C100, Lien said that there were a couple of big factors that they had to keep in mind, which were that many smaller companies are not going to have the large security budgets of the enterprise class operations and that they are also going to have limited IT resources to deal with a more complex installation.
Considering this, the C100 was placed at a beginning price point of $30,000 and includes a guided setup wizard to make the installation process much more simplified, taking only a matter of hours or a day to complete, as opposed to the weeks or months that is typical with a large deployment. Essentially, the C100 is a complete PSIM solution on a computer, containing the appliance itself, the operating system (an embedded, hardened version of Microsoft 2003), the Proximex application, and the ability to support up to two integration modules with 100 to 200 sensors.
In addition to providing this new solution to its larger integrator partners such as ADT, Johnson Controls and Siemens, Lien said that they will also be selling it though more “boutique” type of integrators. Not only does the company believe that the C100 will meet a need in the mid-market, but Lien added that it should also help the company get its foot in the door with larger businesses for its Surveillint enterprise-class PSIM software.
Proximex will be unveiling a prototype of the C100 at the 2009 ASIS International Seminar and Exhibition next week in Anaheim, Calif. (booth #3443), and should be shipping by the end of the year.
