Healthcare provider to deploy HID smart cards

Following its spin-off and corporate rebranding campaign, the Albert Einstein Healthcare Network (AEHN) has selected HID Global’s iCLASS contactless smart cards to simplify the re-badging of more than 7,000 personnel.

According to a statement, Siemens, AEHN’s systems integrator for the project, chose HID’s iCLASS readers and smart cards to replace the organization’s 300 exisiting Wegand swipe readers.

Since the iCLASS readers support both legacy magstripe cards and new contactless cards, the healthcare provider was able to make an easy transition.

"HID Global provided the existing Wiegand magstripe system at AEHN, so it was a natural progression to upgrade the access control system and produce badges using HID Global’s solutions," said Russell Jones, network director for Protective Services at AEHN. "By choosing HID’s iCLASS contactless smart cards, we now have higher levels of security than traditional access-control technologies, and also benefit from a platform that incorporates our KRONOS payroll system and other applications such as single sign-on and cashless vending."
