FLINT, Mich. --

The Genesee County sheriff announced on Monday the arrest of 11 people, including four juveniles, who authorities claim shot at deputies as they attempted to arrest them for stealing copper from a General Motors plant.

Investigators said the suspects were caught in the act at Flint North last Friday.

Genesee County Sheriff's official said when a deputy tried to approach them, at least one person started shooting.

Police said the 11 managed to steal $30,000 worth of copper from Plant 31 in Buick City.

Most of the people face breaking and entering charges, while the shooting suspect, 21-year-old Joshua Knoll, is also charged with assault with intent to murder.

Investigators said the suspects all have previous records.
