Wren Awarded New Patent for Technology That Enables Businesses to Reduce Loss, Manage Risk and Streamline Operations

Feb. 9, 2009

ATLANTA , Feb. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Wren, a provider of enterprise-class video surveillance solutions since 1983, today announced that the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has issued a new patent related to the company's Encapsulon(R) software technology. The new patent, U.S. Patent No. 7,474,330, is a continuation-in-part (CIP) of related U.S. Patent No. 6,847,393, and extends patent protection to the collaboration of video with data from other systems for the purposes of collecting customer demographics, improving operations, reducing loss, managing risk and improving training.

Patent Protects First Solution to Proactively Deliver Video and Data Based on Exception Criteria

"This continuation broadens and extends the patent for our Encapsulon software technology, which was the first solution on the market to proactively deliver video and related data from Point of Sale (POS), access control, and other critical systems based on exception criteria. This allows companies to access the video and data they need in order to better understand what is happening in the business. This insight is invaluable to business owners and operators in many markets such as retail, healthcare, education and government institutions," said Andrew Wren , president of Wren. "The award of this CIP and our original patent demonstrates the innovative nature of our technology. Encapsulon will enable customers in any industry to prioritize and organize data collected from a number of IP-enabled products to deliver information for better decision-making across the enterprise."

The patent represents the underpinnings of Wren's Encapsulon software platform, which is a powerful tool enabling proactive identification and retrieval of potentially loss-causing events that impact the bottom line. The software correlates information from disparate systems like video, point-of-sale systems data, access control, EAS and alarms. The web-based platform offers enterprise-grade functionality which allows collaborative workflow and issue management, permitting multiple stakeholders in the organization to get issues resolved in a consistent and efficient manner.

A pioneer in user-friendly video management software and technology, Wren plans to leverage this patent for the continual development of next-generation physical security platforms that enable businesses in every industry to use video and data from other systems proactively - not only to prevent and resolve security issues, but also to improve their everyday operations and awareness of events that impact a company's bottom line.
