According to a new report from market research firm IMS Research, the proliferation of IP technology has created new opportunities for security equipment manufacturers in the video door phone market.
The report, "World Market for Video Door Phones – 2011 Edition," which examines the outlook of IP video door phones over the next five years, finds that security manufacturers are in a position to "leapfrog" traditional door phone makers due to their expertise in designing and installing IP video systems.
"Very few companies currently offer a full IP video door phone system, and the majority of companies that do are not key players in the video door phone market," said report author and IMS Research Analyst Emma Chapman in a prepared statement. "Most of the established players in the market are either still developing or just launching an IP product."
The report also notes that large, high-end applications where existing IP networks are already use will be big targets for IP video door phone makers due to their costs.
