DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. --

Police said a gunman robbed an armored car and shot a security guard in Stone Mountain on Friday morning.

Newschopper 2 flew over the scene as police searched for clues near a Wells Fargo on Redan Road.

One of two Loomis armored car employees got out of the van to load money into the bank’s ATM when he was ambushed by the robber, police said.

FBI Special Agent Stephen Emmett said the gunman approached the worker with a .40-caliber pistol and “without provocation opened fire on the one courier, wounding the one courier with multiple gunshot wounds.”

The victim was being treated at an area hospital.

Emmett said the thief fled with a bag of cash in an old white Jeep Grand Cherokee. He said the robbery was the sixth armored car-ATM robbery in the metro Atlanta area since mid-September.

Emmett said authorities are concerned, particularly by the brashness of the crimes.

“They do not hesitate to confront these individuals with weapons and that makes them violent and makes a priority,” Emmett told Channel 2’s Jeff Dore.
