Medical center adopts Cernium technology for added perimeter security


There’s often an assumption that the only places using video analytics are locations like airports and military installations. In fact, analytics are finding applications at more “normal” environments. Today, for example, we learned that John Hopkins Medical Institutions is using analytics from Cernium to do perimeter security on its medical center campus in Baltimore, Md. According to Cernium, the technology has been finding its way onto a number of other hospital and university campus around the nation in recent years.

The Cernium system, called Perceptrak, using a server-based architecture for performing video analytics. Stephen Graham, president of Cernium’s Systems Division said the use of video analytics “makes it possible for Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions security operations to focus on the visual information they need the most to protect people and critical assets.
