Wisconsin adopts latest edition of NFPA 1, Fire Code

Addition gives NFPA adoption statewide by 18 states

Jan. 14, 2011 -- As of January 1st, Wisconsin is now following the NFPA 1 Fire Code developed by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). The adoption of the code by Wisconsin brings state-wide adoption to 18 U.S. states.

The goal of the code, according to the NFPA, is "to establish a reasonable level of fire safety and property protection from hazards created by fire and explosion ... to address basic fire prevention requirements and to reference or extract the fire prevention and protection aspects of many other NFPA codes and standards."

According to the NFPA Wisconsin officials have been undergoing code training; the training is offered free to government officials who deal with the codes and code enforcement.
