According to a story published by the Dodge City Daily Globe, authorities in Ford County, Kansas, have decided to begin charging for false alarm calls.
County commissioners approved a measure that would give alarm owners one free false alarm each month, after which they would be fined $25 for each additional false alarm, with the exception of a weather-related alarm.
"That makes the people who own alarms a little bit more responsible," Ford County Communications Director Linda Smith told the publication. "And also, if they do have a malfunctioning alarm, it makes the alarm company more responsible to fix that for them."
The new ordinance would also require residents to obtain a $10 permit prior to installing or operating an alarm system, according to the report.
