SDI to take part in $1.96M transit security project

Systems integrator SDI announced this week that it has been selected by public transit operator Omnitrans in San Bernardino County, Calif., to install onboard surveillance systems on 167 of its buses.

As part of the $1.96 million project, SDI will install Verint’s Nextiva mDVR solution, along with eight cameras to cover the interior and exterior of the buses. The surveillance systems will be fully integrated with Omnitrans’ central video management, maintenance and archiving systems.

According to a statement, the SDI team, which also consists of Verint, Kodiak and TransIT Solutions, was selected based on its transit industry qualifications.

"The OBVSS system is another extension of the agency’s drive to increase the security and customer satisfaction of our riders," said P. Scott Graham, director of operations for Omnitrans. "With quicker access to greater visual coverage of our bus environment, Omnitrans will have more data to fine tune our customer’s experience, as well as to quickly and efficiently secure the safety of our drivers and passengers."
