Pelosi, Larson, House Democrats to Hold Issues Forum on Tuesday on the Economy and National Security

WASHINGTON , Dec. 5 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Speaker Nancy Pelosi and incoming Democratic Caucus Chairman John Larson announced today that House Democrats will hold an issues forum on Capitol Hill on Tuesday, December 9 . The issues forum, which will convene national experts on the economy and national security, will address efforts to get the economy back on track and protect the American people.

"House Democrats are committed to ensuring both the economic and national security of the American people," Pelosi said. "By bringing together the leading minds on these critical issues, Democrats are determined to provide real solutions to the challenges facing our nation."

The issues forum is the latest in an ongoing effort by the 110th Congress to take America in a New Direction. House Democrats have hosted a number of forums on the economy, health care, and infrastructure.

Pelosi and House Democrats will hold a press availability on Tuesday to discuss the issues forum.

Economic Security Panel:

James K. Galbraith - Mr. Galbraith is the Lloyd M. Bentsen Jr. Chair in Government/Business Relations and Professor of Government at The Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin.

Robert D. Reischauer - Mr. Reischauer is President of the Urban Institute and a former director of the Congressional Budget Office.

Alice M. Rivlin - Ms. Rivlin, a former vice chair of the Federal Reserve Board, is a senior fellow in the Economic Studies Program at Brookings, where she directs Brookings Greater Washington Research. She is also a visiting professor at the Public Policy Institute of Georgetown University.

Laura Tyson - Ms. Tyson is a Professor in the Haas Business and Public Policy Group, at the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley and Senior Fellow with the Center for American Progress. She served as Chair of the National Economic Council in the Clinton Administration.

Mark Zandi - Mr. Zandi is Chief Economist and co-founder of Moody's Economy.com, where he directs the company's research and consulting activities.

Keynote Address:

Paul Volcker - Mr. Volcker, a former Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve, was recently selected by President-elect Obama to be Chair of the President's Economic Recovery Advisory Board. He also is professor emeritus of international economic policy at Princeton University.

National Security Panel:

Rand Beers - Mr. Beers is the President and Founder of the National Security Network and was recently selected by President-elect Obama to lead the Department of Homeland Security Review Team.

Martin S. Indyk - Ambassador Indyk is the director of the Saban Center for Middle East Policy and Senior Fellow in the Foreign Policy Studies Program as the Brookings Institution. He is a former U.S. Ambassador to Israel .

Jessica Tuchman Mathews - Ms. Mathews is the President of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and was a senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations.
