Study: 80 percent of security products fail to work as intended

Report finds quality of security products sacrificed in order to more quickly deliver newer and greater solutions

ATLANTA, Nov. 6, 2009 - According to a report scheduled to be issued later this month by ICSA Labs, an independent division of Verizon Business, nearly 80 percent of security products fail to work as intended when they are first tested.

Among some of the study’s other findings include:

• A majority of products require two to four cycles of testing before achieving certification.
• About 20 percent of products fail to correctly accept patching updates
• Newer products tend to have more problems than older ones

More information will be made available when ICSA releases the full report on Nov. 16.
