BIO-key(R) Granted Additional Patent for Biometric Security Solution

Oct. 15, 2008

WALL, N.J. , Oct. 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- BIO-key International, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: BKYI), a leader in finger-based biometric identification and wireless public safety, announced today that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has approved the issuance of a patent for the company's "Biometric Identification Network Security" method.

This recently issued "Biometric Identification Network Security" patent (patent number 7,415,605) provides a defense against hackers and system attacks, while leveraging the industry standard Trusted Platform Module (TPM) specification for encryption key management. Since 2006, many new laptop computers have been sold with an embedded Trusted Platform Module chip. The primary attributes of this patent focus on using the TPM to encrypt the biometric image or template before it is transmitted, thereby providing protection from attempts to hack into the computer or the transmission to either implant a different biometric or to steal a copy of the biometric being transmitted. This new patent grant increases BIO-key's current inventory to twelve (12) awarded domestic and international patents.

"With the widespread adoption of biometrics for establishing a person's identity, it is imperative to protect the security and integrity of the total identity transaction," said Mira LaCous, BIO-key's Vice President of Technology and Development "You only have one set of fingerprints and it is important to protect against your biometric being compromised. BIO-key recognizes that to accomplish this we must build strong security measures to protect the biometric template, the communications, and the processes handling the transactions. This is the focus of this patent, which is to utilize the strongest forms of protection to safeguard your identity."

Mike DePasquale , BIO-key's Chief Executive Officer stated, "Over the past ten years we have built the industry's most robust and scalable finger identification technology. The fruits of our labor are now materializing in both revenue growth and the recognition of our protected intellectual property. As the industry matures and business markets begin to widely deploy finger biometric solutions, we believe that we are well situated to take advantage of any opportunities that emerge."
