BIO-key(R) Announces Additional $245,000 in Third Quarter Public Safety Orders

Oct. 13, 2008

WALL, N.J. , Oct. 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- BIO-key International, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: BKYI), a leader in finger-based biometric identification and wireless public safety, announced today $245,000 in additional new public safety software and related services orders that closed at the end of the third quarter of 2008. Approximately fifty percent of third quarter orders were comprised of awards from new customers and additional user agencies hosted by existing customers. Third quarter 2008 awards include MobileCop(R) orders for eleven new user agencies from Independence Communications and InterAct Public Safety Systems, existing BIO-key law enforcement channel partners. Federal, state, county and local agencies rely on BIO-key's mobile data products -- including MobileCop(R) and PocketCop(R) -- to link their patrol officers and other first responders with federal and state criminal justice databases from in-vehicle laptops and hand held smartphones.

"The strong new order demand we're seeing from both existing and new customers is a direct result of the ongoing enhancements we're been making to our mobile data product portfolio," said Ken Souza , Senior Vice President and General Manager of BIO-key's Law Enforcement Division. "Our customers are looking for ways in which they can increase productivity and lower operational costs and our solutions deliver on both counts."

BIO-key recently released MobileCop 7.0, the company's latest mobile data software enhancement, that enables police officers to be more effective in the field and the network easier to manage from any location. The software's new RollCall feature uses "wiki" technology to broadcast up-to-date inter-agency information and directives, such as patrol assignments, house watch requests, or "be on the lookout" alerts (BOLOs), directly to all patrol vehicles. By using RollCall, officers are no longer required to drive to the station at the beginning of the shift -- or at other times -- to obtain inter-agency information. RollCall helps improve communications and productivity as well as reducing car mileage and fuel expenses.

Message Center, another feature of MobileCop 7.0, centralizes all text messaging, announcement and email functions within a single window accessible from a single icon, and allows officers to receive critical information directly from RSS feeds, such as weather advisories and Amber Alerts. "Message Center has been well received by our patrol officers," according to Lincoln (NE) Police Department Sergeant, Todd Beam . "Officers in the street aren't just doing mobile computing; they're often doing it while in motion. Having a single, consolidated interface for all communications means they can concentrate on the job rather than jumping from screen to screen." MobileCop 7.0 is available to all current maintenance customers.
