Acquisition brings in security products firm specializing in self-storage industry

Illinois-based access control firm The Chamberlain Group announced today that it has purchased Digitech International, a manufacturer of security products used heavily in the self-storage industry. The purchase price was not disclosed, and closely followed the October 2007 acquisition of PTI Integrated Systems, which also specializes in security systems for self-storage business.

Digitech, based in Asheville, N.C., has provided products such as automatic gates and keypads, as well as video surveillance and recording systems, door alarms and storage-site communications systems for more than 20 years. The product line links up with The Chamberlain Group, which has provided similar systems, including residential garage door openers, commercial door operators, residential and commercial gate operators, telephone entry systems and other access control products.

"Digitech's security products, talented employees and customer base complement Chamberlain's business and enhance our ability to deliver compelling integrated access control solutions," said CEO J. David Rolls in announcing the acquisition of Digitech.

Digitech international president and co-owner Rick Ford will stay with The Chamberlain Group as a consultant, and Digitech co-owner Jon Loftin, vice president of engineering, will stay on with The Chamberlain Group in a management role. Bob Markwart, Chamberlain executive vice president of sales and marketing, will oversee operations at both companies.
