New cars to include cameras and security intercom direct from factory

Bombardier Transportation, a manufacturer of mass transit vehicles, announced last week that the company had landed a contract to supply 234 new subway cars for Toronto's mass transit system. The company is promising to deliver "next generation" cars, and with that comes security upgrades.

The new cars themselves are a sign of how central security is to mass transit operations today. The new cars will feature integrated cameras installed, plus a two-way intercom system for drivers and passengers to communicate.

In addition to security features, the cars also include integrated communications for passengers for alerts such as which doors will open and which stations are being approached.
