Retired General Joseph Yakovac, Noted Acquisition Expert, Joins The Cohen Group as Senior Counselor

WASHINGTON , Aug. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- The Cohen Group, an international strategic advisory firm headed by former Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen , has announced that Lieutenant General Joseph P. Yakovac, Jr. (U.S. Army - Retired) has joined the firm as a Senior Counselor.

Prior to joining The Cohen Group, General Yakovac served in several senior U.S. Army positions, most recently as Military Deputy to the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics, and Technology and Director of the Army Acquisition Corps. In those roles, General Yakovac led the effort to improve the Army's combat capability and provide critical systems and support services. He retired from the Army in January 2007 .

General Yakovac graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1977 and earned an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Colorado. He served as a platoon leader, executive officer, and company commander in mechanized infantry units and as an assistant professor at West Point . He held numerous field grade assignments before serving as Project Manager, Bradley Fighting Vehicle System at U.S. Tank-automotive Armaments Command (TACOM) and as Assistant Deputy for Systems Management and Horizontal Technology Integration, Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Acquisition, Logistics and Technology).

For his distinguished service, General Yakovac earned the Distinguished Service Medal, the Legion of Merit three times, and the Army Meritorious Service Medal seven times. He wears the Expert Infantry Badge, the Ranger Tab, and the Parachutist Badge. He is a graduate of the Armor Officer Advanced Course, the Army Command and General Staff College, the Defense Systems Management College and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces.
