Residents now face $100 fines for false fire, burglar alarms

The selectmen of Darien, Conn., recently passed an ordinance that will fine residents each time city fire and police personnel have to respond to a false alarm.

Fines for false alarms were set at $100 per violation. Residents who use an automatic telephone dialing alarm system directly to the emergency communications center and those who fail to register an alarm will also be fined $100.

According to a published report in the Darien News Review, a city official stated that the new ordinance was implemented to decrease the number of "excessive" false alarms.
