The selectmen of Darien, Conn., recently passed an ordinance that will fine residents each time city fire and police personnel have to respond to a false alarm.
Fines for false alarms were set at $100 per violation. Residents who use an automatic telephone dialing alarm system directly to the emergency communications center and those who fail to register an alarm will also be fined $100.
According to a published report in the Darien News Review, a city official stated that the new ordinance was implemented to decrease the number of "excessive" false alarms.
