Purchase enhances Lockheed's global logistics capabilities

Lockheed Martin Corporation finished its acquisition of Savi Technology on Thursday.

Savi, a California company specializing in active radio frequency identification technologies, has seen its technologies adopted by a number of defense agencies, as well as airports using the active RFID technology to monitor cargo shipments. Many of the applications for the active RFID technologies are not specifically security, but more often apply to operations and logistics. In fact, security is usually mentioned as a side benefit of using RFID technologies.

The company, which was founded in 1989 and has approximately 300 people, manufacturers both the tags and the readers.

According to Lockheed Martin, Savi Technology will retain its name, but will be fully managed by Lockheed Martin's Integrated Systems & Solutions business division.
