Police warning public of unscrupulous installers pushing systems with hidden costs

POLICE are warning Warwickshire residents to be on their guard against unscrupulous companies selling burglar alarms door-to-door.

Officers are urging people to contact them before agreeing to salesmen installing alarms in their homes.

The advice follows a spate of cold calls from companies pressure selling security alarm systems in the south of the county.

PC Nick Stephens from Warwickshire Police's community safety team, said: "I would urge anyone considering security systems to call us for advice. We can also check that the installer is a member of one of the approved independent inspection bodies."

He said some companies often target elderly people in areas where there have been spates of burglaries.

They offer alarms at knock-down prices and often fail to mention huge installation costs.
