$2M project would add almost 17,000-s.f. of space

Apr. 20--Ground will be broken today for Hermantown Square, a 16,500-square-foot shopping center at U.S. Highway 53 and Lavaque Road.

The 2 p.m. ceremony will be hosted by Platinum Properties, which is developing the shopping center.

Construction will begin about May 1 and is expected to be done near the end of August, said Steve Paulson, who is a Platinum Properties partner with Joe Peterson. Including the land and construction, it's about a $2 million project, Paulson said.

Hermantown Square will have eight to 10 stores, including a coffee shop called The Daily Grind, Total Tan tanning salon, a restaurant and an insurance and financial office, Paulson said. It will have parking spaces for 108 vehicles as well.

About 22,000 cars daily pass the intersection on Highway 53, which has a new traffic signal, Paulson said.

The shopping center is ideally located to take advantage of the traffic, he said. "It's going to change the look of that whole corner," Paulson said.
