Mississippi student sues school police over detainment incident

A student at a Mississippi high school has filed a lawsuit against a police officer, the police chief and the city of Greenwood regarding an altercation that took place on Dec. 6, 2006.

According to the lawsuit, officer Casey Wiggins shoved James Marshall into a wall, threw him to the ground, and placed a gun to his head. Marshall, 18, was never charged with any crime.

Currently, Leflore County Chancery Court Judge John Barnwell is deciding whether to make a security tape of the incident public. Multiple parties have asked for copies of the tape.

Also pending is a decision on whether criminal charges will be filed against Wiggins.
