Association reveals theme, highlights for NBFAA Spring Conference and CSA Symposium

Irving, Texas – The National Burglar & Fire Alarm Association (NBFAA) announced it will once again host the NBFAA Spring Conference and Chartered State Association (CSA) Symposium in Las Vegas April 2-6, 2006; additionally, the association announced the theme for the conference: Mission Possible.

NBFAA Executive Director Merlin Guilbeau said, “Mission Possible highlights the importance of the association’s overall mission to represent, support and promote the electronic life safety, security and systems industry, and our determination to achieve it every day,” he said. “This theme also reinforces that our industry is engaged in important work vital to securing homes, businesses and individuals from harm. Throughout the conference, and the year, we will expand on this theme, bringing people and ideas together to benefit members, and the industry.”

The NBFAA conference and symposium is host to life safety and electronic security systems professionals from around the country for industry-related training, seminars, discussions and networking.

Highlights of the conference include the NBFAA/CSA Symposium that begins Sunday, April 2 with guest speaker Dan Cain, founder and president of Cain Consulting Group, Inc. A nationally-recognized authority in management and governance, Cain will present a workshop for attendees. An NBFAA member reception will provide a networking opportunity immediately following the workshop.

On Monday, NBFAA will kick off the day with “Breakfast with Dan Cain” and a discussion of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002, a federal law which covers issues such as establishing a public company accounting oversight board, auditor independence, corporate responsibility and enhanced financial disclosure. It is considered one of the most significant changes to United States securities laws since the New Deal in the 1930s. Committee meetings will be held in the morning following the breakfast. During a special lunch on Monday, the association will honor outgoing association leadership at the annual Leadership Awards Luncheon, followed by the Board of Director meeting in the afternoon.

The third annual Alarm Industry Research and Educational Foundation (AIREF) /NBFAA Golf Tournament will give NBFAA members — and others who sign up — a day of Golf Without Guilt at the Revere Golf Club on April 4, the Tuesday before the start of the International Security Council (ISC) West Conference and Exposition. Guilbeau said the tournament is a way for conference attendees to relax while benefiting the industry. Proceeds from the golf tournament will benefit AIREF, an all-volunteer, non-profit group dedicated to conducting research that benefits the public interest as well as the interests of the alarm industry.

After the tournament, AIREF and NBFAA will host an Evening Event where the prestigious Morris F. Weinstock and Sara E. Jackson Awards will be presented at the Tangerine Lounge & Nightclub at Treasure Island.

Director of Chapter Relations, Membership and Events, Jorge Rivas, said this year’s conference will be bigger and better than ever. “This is the perfect industry event for members to network, cultivate business relationships, and create long-lasting friendships with industry colleagues,” he said.

In addition to the activities at the NBFAA conference and symposium, members can take advantage of the National Training School (NTS)-accredited education and networking available at the ISC West Expo. Registered conference attendees will be included in an “invitation only” breakfast at the 8th Annual Industry Summit and Breakfast ISC West with guest speaker Tom Ridge, the first Secretary of Homeland Security.

Registration for the conference and symposium includes the Board of Directors and committee meetings and free registration to ISC West Exhibition and 20 percent off the educational (NTS-accredited) conference.
